United to move for 24-year-old with $46.8m fee
Manchester United’s search for a permanent solution to their left back problem has taken them to Germany this summer, but the Red Devils would need splash the cash to get their top target.
United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly identified Augsburg’s fullback, Philipp Max as the player that can make that position his own.
Since the departure of Patrice Evra in the summer of 2014, Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind, Luke Shaw and Ashley Cole have all auditioned for that position, but none has been able to make it theirs.
Max had an outstanding season in the last campaign and finished with 12 assists which is the second highest in the division, and the Germans have set an asking price of $46.8 million (£35 million) for his signature.
Reports claim Mourinho monitored the 24-year-old star throughout last season and he is ready to bring him to Old Trafford ahead of what is likely to be another high-stakes campaign for United.
