Manchester United’s dreams of a 4th place finish in the Premier League took a hit after Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s side was beaten for the first time by Arsenal on Sunday.

A David de Gea howler helped Granit Xhaka open the scoring for the Gunners from long range. Unai Emery’s attacking lineup dominated the Red Devils in the first half which forced Solksjaer to change his system.

United got into the game after the tweak in the formation but failed to cause any serious damage to the Gunners back line despite a few very good chances.

Fred conceded a soft penalty on Alexandre Lacazette in the second half and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang doubled Arsenal’s lead and took the game away from the Red Devils.

The defeat on Sunday meant that Arsenal moved 2 points above Manchester United to fourth place in the Premier League. The Gunners have faced all of the big six with 8 games to spare and Manchester United will have to depend on Arsenal and Spurs dropping points in order to reclaim a spot in the top 4.
