The Manchester United squad to face Burnley on Boxing Day noticeably did not include star forward Anthony Martial and the reason for that has been revealed.

The 22-year-old was in action on Saturday as the Red Devils traveled to Leicester City in the Premier League.

Martial was substituted late in the second half and he did not appear to be carrying any injury problem.

However, the France international was not included in the match-day squad for the clash against Burnley on Tuesday, to the surprise of most fans.

Indeed, initial rumours from certain fans suggested that Martial had been dropped due to his performances against Leicester which saw him waste a golden opportunity to score after a superb pass from Romelu Lukaku.

However, it has now been revealed that the forward was omitted from the team due to a new fitness concern; a knee injury he apparently picked up in Saturday’s match.

Martial has been in and out of the team this season and the former AS Monaco forward will hoping his new injury problem does keep him out of action for too long.
