Manchester United fans were given very little to cheer about on Tuesday evening as the team suffered a 3-1 defeat to fierce rivals Manchester City in a match which threatened to be a humiliating thrashing at one point.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had to pick up his boys for another big match, a few days after the 0-0 draw away at Wolves in the FA Cup.

After making it all the way to the semi-final of the League Cup, the Red Devils definitely had every right to dream about getting their hands on the first piece of silverware of the season as they faced Man City in the first leg.

Jesse Lingard was in the starting line-up for Solksjaer’s side but the Englishman was once again unable to make a difference as the Red Devils went on to lose 3-1 at home.

As a result, the 27-year-old was slammed by certain United fans on social media.
