Pundit and former Premier League star Ian Wright has expressed his views on Phil Jones’ progress at Old Trafford.

The 25-year-old was tipped to become one of the best when he was signed from Blackburn by Sir Alex Ferguson a few years ago.

Prior to Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Stoke City, Jones had made an encouraging start to the new campaign.

The defender returned from the international break, having played a decisive role for England in their recent World Cup qualifiers.

And for Ian Wright, Jones has certainly been impeded by injuries over the years but whatever progress he is making this term should not be judged too early.

“He has had some injuries that have stunted his growth,” Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“He was supposed to be the next Duncan Edwards. It is great to see someone like Phil Jones playing alongside Eric Bailly.

“They look great after three games but we have to judge them after 30 games.”
