‘It’s really poor from him’ – Neville singles out United star over Brighton loss
Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has singled out defender Eric Bailly after the frustrating defeat to Brighton on the road on Sunday.
Jose Mourinho started this season with the clear target of having to challenge for the Premier League title after Manchester City’s emphatic triumph over the course of last year.
The centre-back position is an area where the United manager appeared to be keen on strengthening over the summer even though he failed to do so.
And after Sunday’s loss to Brighton which saw Bailly underperform, Gary Neville has questioned the competence of the Ivorian defender along with the club’s other remaining options at the back.
“There’s five centre backs at the club. Is there a pair among them who you would trust to take you to a title? That’s the question Jose [Mourinho] needs to answer,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“Every single United defender… they’re rash, they make tackles they don’t have to.
“It’s really poor from Bailly, it’s so poor. Jose will hate what he’s seeing. All of them [the defenders] dive in, every single one of them. He will be absolutely fuming.
“You have to hang in there when your’re not playing well. The mistakes at the back. There’s no need to tackle, you’ve got to keep your composure.
“He’s complaining, winging, moping around.”
