Manchester United have been given the greenlight to secure the signature of former star Cristiano Ronaldo, following a new decision regarding his release clause at Real Madrid.

The Portugal international hinted after the Champions League final that he may have played his final game in the colors of Real Madrid.

Manchester United have continued to be linked with a possible deal to bring him back to Old Trafford this summer and the good news for the Red Devils now is that his price tag has been reduced.

Spanish outlet OK Diario are reporting that the prolific forward’s release clause at Madrid has been cut down from $1.2billion (€1billion) to a far more affordable amount of $140million (€120million).

Ronaldo is coming back home after his Portugal side were eliminated from the World Cup through a 2-1 defeat to Uruguay in Russia on Saturday.

Any transfer for the 33-year-old would still represent a Premier League record fee, however it would also represent a relative bargain in the modern transfer market.
