Manchester United are targeting a transfer move which might be a deal sensible on paper but one that could surprise many fans.

The Red Devils are playing catch up in the Premier League at the moment after falling a massive 11 points behind Manchester City in the title race.

United’s decline in form which saw them fall behind Pep Guardiola’s side came through some lackadaisical defensive displays in defeats away to Huddersfield and Chelsea.

And to provide an answer to those concerns, Mourinho is reportedly eying the signing of former Red Devil Jonny Evans according to the Mirror.

The 29-year-old, who left Old Trafford for good in the summer of 2015, has certainly attracted some of the top clubs after resurrecting his career at the Hawthorns.

West Brom are believed to be seeking a fee of $40 million (£30 million) for Evans after rejecting an offer from Manchester City during the summer.

With key defender Eric Bailly set to remain on the sidelines for quite a while, the addition of a new centre-back does seem to be a necessity.
