Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that one of his key stars succumbed to an injury during the match against Watford.

The Red Devils did well to beat Watford 4-2 at Vicarage Road despite the home side’s attempt to stage a stunning comeback.

Tuesday night’s affair saw Nemanja Matic fail to complete the full match as he was replaced by Ander Herrera after only 54 minutes.

And Mourinho has made it clear that the 29-year-old was forced off the pitch by a worrying muscular problem.

“We lost stability when Nemanja Matic had to come out but the important thing is the three points.” the United manager said

“I saw happiness from the team and played with a free mind.

“Last season I learned what Ashley Young can be, he gives stability in his performances and this season he is playing more regularly.

“He has the spirit and experience we need, today he also had the talent to score two beautiful goals.

“For Matic to tell me he wants to be replaced, he does not do that if it is nothing important. It is muscular.”
