Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Manchester United will be without one of their key midfielders for Sunday’s big clash with Everton.

The Red Devils are currently second in the Premier League after local rivals Manchester City’s thumping 6-0 victory away at Watford on Saturday.

Following last week’s disappointing display against Stoke City which saw them settle for a 2-2 draw at the Bet365 stadium, United responded with a 3-0 win over Basel in midweek.

However, that triumph in the Champions League came at a cost as Paul Pogba suffered a muscular problem which forced him to be withdrawn in the first half.

The 24-year-old has played a key part in United’s encouraging start to the new campaign thus far, but Mourinho has confirmed he will not be involved in the upcoming clash with Everton.

“He is injured and he cannot play on Sunday,” the United boss said

“We know that, for a few matches, I don’t know how many, but I expect we are to play without Pogba for a few matches.” However, Jose he was keen to stress his absence is a fantastic chance for the rest of the squad to impress.

“That is an opportunity for others and the others are ready to get that opportunity, and to perform,” he stated. “Of course we feel sorry that we lose a player but we are calm and confident, because it is an opportunity for people who are ready to take it.”
