Jose Mourinho has confirmed that his side has been hit with a new injury setback, heading into the busy list of festive fixtures in late December.

The Manchester United manager will be hoping his side does not fall any further behind league leaders Manchester City who are now 11 points clear at the top.

Mourinho has been dealing with the absence of Paul Pogba who has been suspended for the past couple of games after being sent off in the 3-1 victory at Arsenal.

And to make matters worse, it now appears that the injury lay-off for key defender Eric Bailly is likely to be extended.

The Ivorian international last featured for United at the beginning of November but he could spend longer on the sidelines than expected.

Indeed, Mourinho has confirmed that Bailly might end up undergoing surgery for what has become a “serious” injury.

“I think it is serious. I don’t know [how long he will be out]. It is an injury that came from the last time he was with the national team.” the United manager said

“We are trying a conservative treatment but if the treatment is not resulting then probably it will end in a surgery procedure but let’s wait a little bit more.”
