As Mourinho prepares Fabinho move, is Valencia finally out?
Jose Mourinho appears to be targeting the signing of another defender to bolster his squad heading into pre-season.
The Manchester United manager has done well to secure the acquisition of highly-rated Swedish centre-back Victor Lindelof so far and there could be more new faces on the way.
According to the Independent, Jose Mourinho is now pursuing the signing of versatile AS Monaco star Fabinho.
The Red Devils are already believed to be wrapping up a deal for second summer signing Nemanja Matic who has been made available for sale by Chelsea boss Antonio Conte.
Mourinho’s reason behind pursuing Fabinho is reportedly because he wants more options at right-back where Antonio Valencia featured regularly last season.
The Brazilian would be another solid addition but he does come across as a jack of all trades and his preferred position may rather be in midfield.
If United are truly in desperate need of a full-back to feature on the right flank, Mourinho might be better off chasing players like Serge Aurier who are naturally suited to that role.
Nonetheless, it is refreshing to see the club attempt to get deals done before pre-season, contrary to how deals were dragged out in the past.
