Mourinho reveals the player who cost United the game at Basel
Jose Mourinho has revealed that a key substitution he made in the second half of the match against Basel proved to be decisive in the end.
The Red Devils suffered their first defeat in the Champions League this season as Basel snatched the three points courtesy of a late strike.
Losing to the Swiss side has brought back some of United’s critics but Jose Mourinho’s men are still in pole position to qualify for the next round of the competition.
Even so, the Red Devils boss has revealed that the substitution of Paul Pogba was a decision which effectively lost the game for his side but the midfielder had to be withdrawn due to his level of fitness.
“The first-half was a perfect half without the goals,” Mourinho said
“Was perfect, the first-half was perfect, was difficult to repeat in the second-half, we knew that the opponent would try a different reaction.
“Did Paul Pogba come out have an impact in the team? I think it had, we were not such a good team after Paul had to come out but he had to be, he cannot go to levels of fatigue after 65 minutes.”
