Gary Neville has admitted that his opinion about David de Gea’s potential when he first arrived in England has been proven wrong a few years later.

The Spanish goalkeeper has grown into one of the most important players in the Manchester United squad after several seasons of consistent performances.

De Gea was once again in inspired form on Sunday as the Red Devils thrashed Everton 4-0 at Old Trafford to keep pace with Manchester City at the top of Premier League.

And the ex-Atletico Madrid shot-stopper’s display has seen him receive more praise from fans and pundits, including Neville.

“He’s just become an outstanding goalkeeper.” the former United star said

“You could argue that he’s now the outstanding goalkeeper in the world. He is Manchester United’s world-class player, there is absolutely no doubt.

“I gave him quite a lot of stick when he first came because he was nowhere near it at that point. But he’s grown into someone who is absolutely outstanding.”
