According to Diario Gol, Manchester United are keen on Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic, believing Philippe Coutinho’s arrival at the Camp Nou could push out the 29-year-old.

Rakitic has been a regular in midfield this campaign, making 25 La Liga appearances for Barca, but United feel such opportunities could dry up next season due to their strength in depth.

Coutinho made the move from Liverpool in January, leaving manager Ernesto Valverde to find a way to fit the Brazilian into a side already containing Sergio Busquets, Andres Iniesta, Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and £135.5m signing Ousmane Dembele.

As a result, Rakitic could be the one to miss out in the starting eleven and United are looking to capitalise, reports the Express. His release clause is £112m although it’s unknown how much the Red Devils are willing to pay.

With Paul Pogba being linked with Real Madrid and Ander Herrera linked with AC Milan, Jose Mourinho could become desperate to bring in a stellar replacement this summer, meaning the United hierarchy sanction a lucrative bid for the likes of Rakitic.
