Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reacted to the big win over fierce rivals Manchester City by applauding the nature of the club’s recruitment process which appears to have brought in the right group of players.

After the 1-1 draw away at Everton, United were aware of the importance of the three points on Sunday as they took on bitter foes City, who had virtually nothing to play for after falling very far behind Liverpool in the Premier League title race.

The Red Devils’ star signing from the January transfer window, Bruno Fernandes, produced another vital contribution as he set up the opening goal from Anthony Martial, deep into the first half.

United held on to their lead and added a late goal to secure a 2-0 win which will keep them breathing on the necks of Chelsea, in the race for a top four finish.

Sunday’s win, which was speer-headed by new signing Fernandes, signaled the rewards that the club can reap by making the right recruitment and thus, Solskjaer spoke on how the Red Devils had brought in the suitable personnel.

“I’ve just looked at the process we have to go through to bring Man United further up the table in my eyes.” he told talkSPORT

“I’m just making decisions with the club that I think are right. The connection between the fans and players, it’s there.

“They can see what type of player I want at the club – they’re hard-working, they’re skilful, there’s pace and they’re fantastic lads.

“They’re great human beings, you should have seen them yesterday with the Under-12s, there was a memorial festival at Carrington [the club’s training ground] and the boys are just absolutely top class.

“It’s a privilege to manage them.”
