Manchester United are reportedly confident of agreeing a new deal for David de Gea to extend his stay at Old Tafford.

The Spanish shot-stopper did not enjoy a memorable World Cup campaign with Spain who were knocked out by Russia in the round of 16.

Nonetheless, De Gea has remained a key player for Jose Mourinho’s side, who will be looking to keep up with Premier League champions Manchester City in the title race this season.

BBC are reporting that the Red Devils are indeed confident of agreeing a new deal with the 27-year-old to lengthen his contract at Old Trafford.

The former Atletico Madrid star was often linked with a return to La Liga once again this summer, despite the fact that Mourinho has refuted claims over him being sold.

Real Madrid’s signing of Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea for £35m has effectively ended their pursuit of the United goalkeeper for now.
