Manchester United remain favourites to land Toby Alderweireld this summer despite the difference in valuation between the two clubs involved in the deal.

The Belgian star impressed at the World Cup in Russia and was an ever-present for his national side who won the bronze prize.

However, Alderweireld is still not a guaranteed starter at Tottenham, having slammed Mauricio Pochettino for not playing him often last season.

Manchester Evening News reports that even though Tottenham and Manchester United are far off in terms of negotiations, the Red Devils are still confident the defender will be coming to Old Trafford this summer.

The report claims that talks between the two clubs were paused weeks ago, but United still believe they can get their man before the transfer window closes.

Alderweireld is one of a few elite group of defenders that Jose Mourinho believes would bring solidity into his team as he looks to wrestle the Premier League title away from Manchester City this season.
