Manchester United ‘have made an approach’ to Leicester over the signing of England defender Harry Maguire, as per the Daily Star.

The 25-year-old, who was named Leicester’s Player of the Season in 2017-18, is only one year into a five-year contract at the KP Stadium after signing from Hull for £17m last summer.

Reports have gone on to state that Leicester are ready to offer the England star, who had an outstanding World Cup, more than £100,000 a week in a bid to keep him – but Maguire’s ambition could see him move to Old Trafford.

United’s rivals Man City were tracking Maguire prior to events in Russia, but it would appear that Jose Mourinho’s men are now the sole front-runners to land the towering centre-back.

Maguire may also be easier to acquire than Tottenham’s Toby Alderweield, especially given United’s troubles dealing with Spurs chief Daniel Levy over previous transfers down the years.

Leicester City value the defender at a staggering price of $104.8million (£80million).
