Reports from the Daily Mail claim the Red Devils have enquired about the availability of Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich as Jose Mourinho targets more midfielders.

Thiago is one of many players who are expected to leave the Allianz Arena this summer after spending five years with the German champions.

A return to Barcelona has been muted by some sections of the media and the latest report claims that he has a stronger interest from the Premier League with United eyeing an $82million (£62million) swoop for the Spaniard.

Chelsea are also said to be keen on signing the 27-year-old with Maurizio Sarri and José Mourinho both looking to wrestle the Premier League crown from Manchester City this season.

Thiago has won the Bundesliga in all of the five seasons that he has played for Bayern, but the Germans have an overload of midfielders after signing Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry, and therefore, he is expected to be offloaded by the club.
