United move to sign $75.6m star receives fresh fight
The fact that Luke Shaw has failed to make the left-back position his own means speculation will continue to link Manchester United with a deal for a new defender.
A report from the Sun claims the Red Devils are facing fresh competition from Tottenham – as well as Chelsea – in their move to sign Jodi Alba from Barcelona this summer.
The Spaniard has just two years left on his current deal at the club, but the Catalans have not shown any desire to offer him a new contract, much to the player’s frustration.
Reports from Spain are claiming that Alba has a release clause of $75.6 million (£57 million) in his current deal at the Nou Camp and that is the price his suitors will have to pay to sign him.
The left-back role was a problem area for United last season and Alba would definitely provide the needed quality – both defensively and offensively – if he does move to Old Trafford.
