Manchester United have stepped up their pursuit of Robert Lewandowski’s signature this summer as the striker returns home from the World Cup.

The 29-year-old was in dissapointing form in Russia as Poland’s World Cup campaign was brought to an end on Thursday even after a 1-0 win over Japan.

Lewandowski, a $297,000-a-week star, has recently expressed his desire to leave Bayern Munich for a new challenge elsewhere.

And as per a report by the Sun, United have attempted to secure the signing of the striker by making contact with his agent.

Lewandowski is reported to have also had a secret meeting with his agent, Pini Zahavi earlier this year as they plot his exit from the Allianz Arena.

Jose Mourinho would like to have the Poland international at Old Trafford to help reduce the goal-scoring burden on Romelu Lukaku – something the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have failed to do.
