Manchester United were amongst the highest spenders in the Premier League during the summer transfer window and according to new rumours, the spending may soon resume.

Jose Mourinho has refused to hide the fact that he needed one more attacking player despite the arrival of Romelu Lukaku from Everton and the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Red Devils boss is expected to consider the signing of a new attacker to bolster his team’s options with Manchester City well ahead in the title race.

Thus, a report by Spanish outlet Don Balon is claiming that United are looking to make a substantial bid to sign promising Real Madrid star Marco Asensio.

The rumour from the Spanish press is indicating that United are prepared to offer the youngster a deal worth £460,000-a-week (£23.9million-a-year) in wages which would make him the highest paid player in the Premier League.

Asensio has caught the eye of several clubs following a string of stunning performances which have seen him register seven goals and two assists in 18 appearances so far this season.
