Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is ‘on the verge’ of signing a bumper new contract, as per the Sun.

The Spain international experienced a forgettable World Cup in the summer as his country were knocked out of the tournament much earlier than many expected.

Even though United have still been conceding a flurry of goals with De Gea in the team this season, the shot-stopper remains a very important player at the club.

The former La Liga star’s future at Old Trafford has not always been a certainty but he has reportedly told people around him that he is on the verge of signing a new contract at United.

The Sun are confidently claiming that De Gea’s new contract which he is close to signing will see him earn a whopping $505,000-a-week (£400,000-a-week) in wages.

The 28-year-old’s current contract will expire at the end of next year after United recently triggered a one-year option in his deal.
