Manchester United are set to welcome back Alexis Sanchez by next weekend, according to caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solksjaer.

Sanchez became a United player 12 months ago in a move which saw him sign a very lucrative contract with the Red Devils.

The Chilean international has not really enjoyed his time at Old Trafford though, especially under the reign of Jose Mourinho who was sacked by the club in December.

Sanchez had been hoping to redeem himself under Solksjaer’s management but fitness troubles have slowed down his progress so far.

The South American star did not play in the win over Brighton on Saturday but United’s boss has revealed that he is set for a return next weekend.

That will see Sanchez return to the Emirates stadium to face Arsenal for the first since his move, in what is likely to be an emotional return to north London.

“He’s obviously not 100 per cent match fit because he’s been out for quite a while,” said Solskjaer.

“But possibly he’ll be in the team in the FA Cup next week.”
