Manchester United are favorites to sign former Manchester City defender Jerome Boateng as he nears the exit door at Bayern Munich.

The Bundesliga champions are facing a difficult summer, with several of their key long-term players looking for a departure and Boateng seems to be part of that group of want-away stars.

The Germany international is currently at the World Cup to represent his country, but he has informed the Bavarians of his desire to complete an exit before next season starts.

Reports via the Mirror are claiming that Manchester United are the favorites as they lead Real Madrid in the race to sign Boateng, a $104,000-a-week star.

Jose Mourinho is reportedly looking for at least one more centre-back before the season begins.

The United boss might prefer to sign Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld, however, Mauricio Pochettino’s side are proving too difficult to deal with and as a result, Mourinho might move for Boateng instead.
