Manchester United are set to battle Liverpool for the signature of Real Madrid star, Marco Asensio.

The 22-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League this summer and reports via Manchester Evening News claim Liverpool are prepared to make a move for the Spaniard.

However, Manchester United are also claimed to be readying their own bid for the Spaniard, who is valued at a staggering $814.6m by Real Madrid.

Asensio wants to remain at the Bernabeu this summer but the midfielder is concerned that Neymar’s potential move to Los Blancos would limit his chances.

Liverpool are reportedly prepared to pay as much as £158m for the highly-rated attacker and United are keen on matching that offer or paying even more.

If signed, Asensio could the marquee signing whose arrival forces the Red Devils to stop pursuing the likes of Gareth Bale, Neymar or Cristiano Ronaldo.
