Former Manchester United star Andy Cole has singled out the two players whom he believes were notably culpable for the defeat against Bristol City on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils have bowed out of the League Cup which was one of the competitions they went on to win last season after their triumph in the Community Shield.

It was a forgettable trip to the lower league side for Jose Mourinho’s men who managed to respond after going behind but failed to avoid conceding a decisive late goal.

And for Cole, young midfielder Scott McTominay and veteran centre-back Marcos Rojo were two players who contributed to the disappointing result on the road.

“If you look at players not going with their runners,” Cole said on Football on 5: The Carabao Cup.

“If you look at the young boy in midfield, McTominay, he gets caught watching the ball.

“But for me Marcos Rojo can move over and jog over, pick him up and United won’t let him in that position.”
