Former Manchester United defender Phil Neville has given his opinion on the current situation of out-of-favour star Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The 28-year-old moved to Old Trafford in the summer of 2016 after a spectacular final campaign in the Bundesliga.

However, Mkhitaryan is still struggling to cement a place in the United starting line-up, more than a year after his switch.

The Armenian star has completely been cast aside this season by Jose Mourinho who appears to have lost faith in the winger’s ability to make a mark at the club.

And speaking on the situation of the ex-Dortmunnd player, Phil Neville has slammed Mkhitaryan for his displays this season, suggesting that he has not taken advantage of the chances handed to him by the manager.

“Yes, they’ve spent a lot on players but maybe there are fewer and fewer players of that mentality available.” Neville told Sky Sports

“You need to have them in the spine of your team.

“There’s a lot of criticism of Jose’s treatment of Henrikh Mkhitaryan but he ultimately didn’t deliver when he’s played. He’s not unlucky, he’s lucky he gets to play for United.”
