Identifying Lukaku’s supporting cast at United
The arrival of Romelu Lukaku might have given us an answer to the centre-forward question at Old Trafford following the exit of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
But there are several questions which remain unanswered in regards to what Lukaku’s supporting cast should look like in United’s attacking unit for next season.
First of all, Jose Mourinho needs to secure the addition of Ivan Perisic who could provide competition on the left-wing for Anthony Martial and bring a different element to the flanks.
And as Michael Carrick enters the twilight of his career, a new defensive or holding midfielder will be very essential going forward.
There’s definitely a variety of players who would offer different dynamics for the squad when called upon. That diversity will also give Mourinho many options to mix and match teams on any given night as we compete in the Champions League as well as the Premier League.
Obviously, the current squad is hardly a completed project since the manager is still in the process of building the next nucleus of this club along with the players he has already brought in.
We will have to give it two or three more transfer windows for Mourinho to have the framework figured out in terms of the core of the team and at that point United will truly be moving full steam ahead.
This not to suggest that the current squad is not adequate enough to be moving full steam ahead in its own right or anything – it’s more than competitive to be a title contender after all.
But we cannot hide away from the fact that certain players who are under 25 years still have something to prove and therefore the building is not done just yet.
Nonetheless, this is an exciting time to be a United supporter and the future looks bright to say the leasthttps://www.fanchesterunited.com/identifying-lukakus-supporting-cast-at-united-a-tactical-perspective/
