Manchester United are closing in on a deal to land the services of AS Roma star Kostas Manolas, as per Marca.

The 27-year-old is a man whom the Red Devils have been chasing for the last two years and this month has been viewed as another opportunity to sign the defender.

For much of the early months of the season, United had a poor defensive record as previous manager Jose Mourinho shifted the blame towards the club’s reluctance to spend in the transfer market.

With the Portuguese now gone, the Red Devils have renewed their interest to sign a defender and Manolas is being targeted.

United have expressed an interest in other centre-backs but the reports coming from Spain are suggesting that United are rather ‘closing in on a deal’ for Manolas.

The AS Roma star has a release clause in his contract which is worth around £30.75m but that will not be active until the summer.
