Mourinho confirms key star will not be in the starting line-up vs Basel
Jose Mourinho has revealed one of the important decisions he has made over his starting line-up for the upcoming clash with FC Basel in the Champions League.
The Red Devils manager watched his side respond to going a goal behind to Newcastle with an emphatic attacking display which secured a 4-1 win in the end.
United’s victory over the Magpies saw superstar striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic step onto the pitch at Old Trafford for the first team since his move back to the club in the summer.
With a spot in the next round of the Champions League secured, many would expect the Red Devils’ boss to consider making a couple of casual changes to his starting line-up.
However, Mourinho has made it clear that Ibrahimovic will not be handed a start against Basel despite travelling to Switzerland with the 22-man squad.
According to the United manager, the Swedish striker will remain on the bench instead as a back up for Romelu Lukaku.
"Zlatan goes on the bench tomorrow," says the boss. "But if we need him, his presence on the pitch will be positive and he can play with Lukaku." #MUFC
