Mourinho finally explains his decisions and tactics against Liverpool to fans
Jose Mourinho has explained the moves he made on the sidelines during Saturday’s clash with Liverpool in the Premier League which ended in a stalemate.
The Red Devils had to settle for a 0-0 draw at Anfield in a game which saw Jurgen Klopp’s side dominate the run of play for much of the 90 minutes.
And according to the United manager, his tactical decisions this weekend were justified even though his side dropped two points.
“Don’t tell me what Jurgen told because I’m not here to comment on his words,” Mourinho said.
“We come for three [points]. But in the second-half we felt difficult to do that, with the match, with the dynamics it has, I was waiting for Jurgen to change, I was waiting for him to go more attacking, but he kept the three strong midfield players all the time, where he was having control, because I only had Herrera and Matic.
“When I brought Lingard and Rashford I was waiting for him to bring Sturridge or Solanke but to keep attacking players, but he decided to keep the strong midfield and that midfield today was stronger than my midfield. I had Herrera and Matic, nobody else, I had nobody on the bench to try and make that difference.
“I couldn’t bring Herrera to the position where he could be more aggressive in the high pressing, so the team was getting below. At the time I thought my team was waiting for me to do something but I couldn’t do anything without any midfield player on the bench so the second-half was more difficult for us.
“For me second-half was a a bit of chess but my opponent didn’t open up the door for me to win the game.”https://www.fanchesterunited.com/mourinho-finally-explains-uniteds-tactics-liverpool-fans/
