Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho has issued his final message for the departing Daley Blind after agreeing to ditch the defender ahead of next season.

The Manchester United squad is likely to be trimmed down to clear out players who have lost the faith of the manager and also raise funds for future signings.

The club has confirmed that a $18.5million (£14.1million) deal has been agreed to sell Blind to Ajax, the same club which he joined the Red Devils from after the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

After allowing the Dutchman to end his career at Old Trafford and return to his former club, Mourinho has spoken kindly about Blind, who was brought to the Premier League by ex-United manager Louis van Gaal.

“I would like to say a big thank you to Daley Blind for everything he has done for the club since he joined in 2014,” Mourinho said

“I have to say, that in my 18 years of management, Daley is the one of the most professional players, both on and off the pitch, that I have had the pleasure to work with.

“I would like to take this opportunity to wish him all the very best as he rejoins his boyhood club, Ajax, and thank him for from the bottom of my heart for his commitment and dedication over the past two seasons.”
