It is bad enough watching your team utterly outplayed on your own patch by your bitterest rivals, but then Jose Mourinho had to rub it in as well with his post-match comments.

Moaning about referee Michael Oliver’s failure to award a second half penalty and pointing out Ederson’s late double save to thwart both Romelu Lukaku and Juan Mata was his lame attempt to gloss over his side’s glaring failures on a late afternoon of doom and gloom at Old Trafford.

The eleven-point margin supposedly ends his Premier League challenge for this season in the eyes of naysayers and for that matter, it remains to be seen if we can crown ourselves as ‘best of the rest’ come May.

Taunted and teased by the Manchester City fans chanting “Man United parking the bus”, the home supporters had little to cheer about as their side was forced back time and again by the incessant pressure from Pep Guardiola’s team who went on to record a record 14th consecutive league win.

All in all, it was a depressing day and not helped by the straw-clutching Mourinho questioning a decision and refusing to acknowledge his side’s inadequacies in every department.

This is a defeat which leaves many questioning a few things; Was the summer business done right? And how far can we go, playing this ultra-reactive football in big games?

11 points is massive gap, but it is hardly an unassailable one. In fact, under Sir Alex Ferguson, a gap that wide would have still been the incentive for a second half of the season comeback.

But it appears as though gone are the days when we were not afraid of playing catch-up in the title race because we knew how to snatch top spot in the end when it mattered.

For me, this title race is not over but I fear the United dressing room probably disagrees. City have been superb this season, but as they have shown in their last five games or so, they are not unbeatable.

A shock defeat or draw in the coming weeks for Pep’s side (which is far from impossible) and the distance could be reduced to eight or nine points.

And if we are behind by 8/9 points heading into January, would that be accounted as the title race being ‘over’?

Give me your thoughts….
