United still hoping to land move for 25-year-old with $159m price tag
Manchester United are still hoping to land the services of Real Madrid’s star defender Raphael Varane, as per reports from France by L’Equipe.
United were very actively searching for a new central defender last summer but that move proved to be unsuccessful, resulting in a long dispute between Jose Mourinho and the club’s hierarchy.
Solksjaer, if he remains as manager beyond this season, is expected to ask for the club to sign a defender who can help solve much of the team’s obvious defensive worries from this campaign.
Varane has been pursued by the Red Devils for years and with his future at Real Madrid now in doubt, United are reportedly hopeful of bringing him to Old Trafford.
Even if United are successful in convincing Real Madrid to sell their star defender, the player is likely to cost United a big amount with Madrid placing a very hefty $159million (£120million) price tag on him.
